The IAC Bocce League

This page will contain all things bocce of interest to Italian American Club Bocce League members.  Questions, comments, and information should be addressed to Nanci Giovi Bonaminio.  Note:  This league is directly affiliated with the Italian American Club of Boise.  The IAC Bocce League holds its own competitions within its club structure that are apart from any and all other bocce leagues in and around Boise.   It is restricted to members and friends of the Italian American Club of Boise.  This statement is necessary due to the anti-public league announcement from the Boise City Parks and Rec. Dept. as reported by our representative to the City in 2009.  We have heard nothing further from the City on this matter.

The Italian American Club Open Bocce Regulations
(based on the USBF Open Bocce Regulations)
It is incumbent upon all team captains to be conversant with these
regulations so they can arbitrate close calls when their team is competing.

LOCAL RULE 1)  For safety reasons and protection of the surface of the bocce ball courts, NO VOLO shots are permitted!   This means you may not loft the ball beyond the midline of the court (the ball must first touch the court surface prior to reaching the midline of the court).  All volo shots are invalid and the ball will be removed from the court and out of play.  Balls displaced by a volo shot will be returned to their approximate original positions.  Play continues.

LOCAL RULE 2)  Another rule for safety is that you may not pitch the ball with force higher than one's waste at any time.  If you are going to throw with force (usually used to dislodge your opponent's balls), you are required to inform the players at the target end of the court that you are going to do so.  This alert will make players aware that injury could result should your shot go awry and toward persons observing, and for them to pay attention.

LOCAL RULE 3)  House balls will be used in all IAC League and tournament competition.

Copies of the IAC Open Bocce Regulations may be downloaded using the link below.  The three local rules above apply to all IAC sponsored events.

The Italian America Club has purchased two sets of Perfetta Bocce Balls to be used in Tournaments and League play (termed "house balls").  These are some of the finest bocce balls made.  Their outer surface is 'rock hard' and they are made with the highest standards.  The physical dimensions of the balls are right at 107mm or 4.21 inches, as specified in USBF rules.  The weight of the balls are very close to the 920 grams, or 2.02 lbs., also specified (the precise weight, although rigidly controlled at the time of manufacture, is not exactly 920 gr. per ball).
